hey everybody!
so… as i was getting ready for a performance while back,
i decided to make a delicious nutritious chocolate papaya shake!
this is something that i have for breakfast and lunch almost every day at school
because it gives me so much energy and it is so scrumptious!
i thought maybe you all would be interested in the recipe….
needed ingredients:
one large ripe organic papaya (half, actually)
1/3 cup raw organic cacao powder (chocolate)
12 cubes of ice (optional.. water or a yummy chilled tea of your choice… i love adding slippery elm tea and maya cacao yogi tea to this shake)
8 teeny tiny scoops of stevia powder (sweetner)
1-3 dates (one is enough I think… I prefer to go heavy on stevia!)
3 shakes organic cinnamon (yummy)
1 shake organic cayenne pepper
a pinch of sea salt (brings out the flavors)
1. first, blend half the papaya with a little water or cool tea (cut as small as you need to first)
2. with about 30 oz of blended papaya (it is nice and thick… perfect for a shake!), blend all of the ingredients into the mix (i use a basic Cuisanart blender).
and now you have about 40 oz of shake (like ice-cream almost, if adding ice) that can get you through the whole morning (about 5 servings)!
the consistency is between pudding and ice-cream shake… SO DELICIOUS. and of all nutrients to have in the morning… these are THE BEST!
i used to use a nut-based mixture or a protein powder type base for my morning shakes. i thought that the fats and proteins were too much for my body first thing in the morning. once i discovered how thick and creamy the shake is with papaya, i will never go back! fruit is so much better for my body in the morning than fats and proteins!!
if you will not be able to eat for a long time, maybe add a little room-temperature coconut oil before the ice (so it won’t solidify) which will make it even more creamy, and the (healthy) fat will help you go a little longer (6 hours or more) without eating (in my experience, anyway). it’s so yummy!
